The Ken Smith Memorial Scholarship Fund is intended to provide a scholarship program for soccer referees wishing to continue their education. The available funds for scholarships are in direct proportion to the success of our fund-raising events. Although soccer players generally have scholarship opportunities from colleges, playing associations and clubs, this is one of the few opportunities specifically intended for the distribution of scholarships to the soccer official.
We began in 2006 with our first scramble which continues today. Although the previous events have been very successful, we are receiving many more requests for assistance than there are funds available.
Originally called the TASO Soccer Golf Scramble. With the untimely
passing of Ken Smith on April 19, 2008, the scholarship fund and
scramble were renamed in his honor. Ken was a great friend to
the referee community, was always there to help a developing
young referee and enjoyed playing golf when time allowed.
